Previously known as Cinema Miorița, this film theater has a rich history, being the last functioning neighborhood cinema in Bucharest. Built in 1935, at 127 Calea Moșilor, it was extremely popular among film enthusiasts in the area. In 1999, it was renamed Cinema Europa in an attempt to modernize it. However, without substantial investments, it gradually faded into obscurity. The venue became an empty space, screening films for nearly deserted halls. Sometimes, fewer than five spectators attended a screening. It became clear: without major intervention, Cinema Europa was at risk of becoming just a memory.

In October 2024, however, Susțin.org decided to invest time, passion, and expertise to bring Cinema Europa into a new era. The cinema’s brand and communication strategy were refreshed, and the Susțin team organized over 20 highly successful events, putting Cinema Europa back on Bucharest’s cultural map. Approximately 5,000 Bucharest residents rediscovered the venue, attending horror film marathons, Christmas movies, and screenings of films by renowned filmmakers from around the world. Additionally, every weekend, children enjoyed original theater productions, and thanks to a partnership with DGASPC Sector 2, the doors of Cinema Europa were opened to seniors and children from underprivileged backgrounds.

What’s next?

The renovation of the cinema and its transformation into a vibrant cultural hub that blends the nostalgia of a bygone era with the expectations of today’s audiences. A dynamic community, a place for meetings and meaningful discussions, an alternative to staying at home and watching films on small screens. And, of course, many more exciting events to come!
