RECURRING PROGRAMME · CINEMA EUROPA

Volunteers' Thursday

A cinema for a day.

At Cinema Europa, volunteers take turns choosing two films and building an evening around them. They explain their choices, prepare the invitation for the public and try to bring people into the auditorium, with the support of the Europa team.

You choose the films.

You make the case for your idea.

You bring in the audience.

WHY IT EXISTS

From “you have to see this film” to a night at the cinema.

You have two films you wish everyone would see. How do you put them together? Who are you speaking to? What do you write in the invitation? And how do you convince people to come? At Volunteers' Thursday, these questions get an answer in a cinema auditorium.

Through this programme, Susțin gives young people the chance to contribute to a cinema's cultural programme. Their enthusiasm becomes a public selection, and the idea comes with the responsibility of explaining it and carrying it through to the meeting with the audience.

HOW IT WORKS

An idea you carry all the way into the auditorium

01

You choose the films

You propose two films and find the idea that connects them. It can be a theme, a contrast or a very personal reason for wanting to see them together on screen.

02

You build the invitation

You explain why you chose the films and why someone should come to see them. The evening's title, the text and the promotion become part of the experience.

03

You bring people into the auditorium

You take part in promoting the event and in meeting the audience, alongside the Europa team. Your selection becomes an evening other people attend.

With the Europa team alongside

Susțin provides the setting in which the programme happens, through Cinema Europa and its volunteer community. The volunteer proposes and promotes the evening, with the cinema team's support. The exact programme of each edition is announced in the public calendar.

HOW THE INVITATION SOUNDS

They do the promotion, in their own language

The announcements for the screenings are thought up and filmed by volunteers. The humour, the references and the tone come from them, and the audience recognises a personal invitation rather than an institutional poster.

LEARNING BY DOING

Your taste. A real responsibility.

Volunteers' Thursday is a chance to try cultural management in a working cinema, with an audience and a team alongside.

Cultural programming

You choose films for a shared experience and think about what connects them.

Communication

You put an idea into words and find reasons the audience would want to discover it.

Organising

You work with a team and with an event that has a date, a place and an audience.

Initiative

You take ownership of a proposal, stand behind it and see how people respond.

FROM THE PROGRAMME'S ARCHIVE

Every Thursday has someone's voice

From romantic comedies to stories about ambition and personal choices, the selections have taken many forms. A few examples from past editions:

THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PROGRAMME

Trust shows in what you leave in their hands.

Volunteers' Thursday is part of a community in which young people contribute to organising and communication. In Școala9's report on Cinema Europa, volunteers speak about the freedom to bring ideas and about the responsibilities they are given.

POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENTS · PROPOSALS

From one evening, a portfolio

Two simple things we could add so that each edition's experience stays useful after the screening.

A record for each Thursday

One page per edition: who chose, why they chose the films, the poster and a few images from the evening. Over time, each volunteer could gather their experiences into a portfolio.

15 minutes after the event

A short conversation with the team: what worked, what we learned about the audience and what we would change next time. A simple habit that can make the experience more useful.

These are proposals, not mechanisms already in place.

Which films would you put in a Thursday?

If you want to get involved, the first step is the Susțin volunteer community. If you want to discover their choices, we will see you at Cinema Europa, on Calea Moșilor 127.
